Family Flicks

I love movies. I especially love movies that are clean and have good messages. A lot of times those kind of movies can end up being kind of cheesy and predictable but there are some that are smart and original. I find it very satisfying when I come across a movie like this. When a movie touches me, leaves me pondering what is important in life and gives me a new perspective while making me laugh, I just love it. I also appreciate any movie where I can totally fall in love with the characters. All three of these movies I've seen recently had this effect on me and I thought I'd share them with you.

Lars and the Real Girl

Who doesn't love Ryan Gosling? (The Notebook, ladies?!) I had my doubts about this movie when I read the description which mentions a "blow up doll" and I assumed the worst : ) However, I am so glad I gave this movie a chance after our friends gave us a good recommendation.

Bella

So touching and filled with passion for life, redemption, and family values. (btw...move over Ryan Gosling, I've got a new crush on Eduardo Verastegui)

Dan in Real Life

This movie definitely wasn't as intense as the first two. Much more light and fun but I thought Steve Carrell was not only funny but vulnerable and totally believable and I love Juliette Binoche.

So, a few weeks ago at our last family get-together we got talking about movies and ended up making lists of movies for each other to add to our Netflix queues. What movies are on your Netflix queue or would be on your list to recommend?

Hey Sharlie! I have been searching through the blogs, I just started one for the first time myself like 2 days ago.I wanted to find people I have things in common with, who I can share my blog with and read their blogs, you know? And so I was looking for fellow movie lovers, I am an official movie buff, it's true I love ALL sorts, but I actually do prefer it if they are cleaner, because look at that, I'm also LDS! LOL! And I wasn't expecting to see that on your page at all.
I admit I skipped Lars because a guy going around with a blow up doll as his girlfriend kind of gave me the sceevies. There is one genre I hate, it's the stupid, gross movies and this looked like the kind. Some good examples would be Knocked Up,White Chicks,Deuce Bigalow, etc. They make me extremely uncomfortable.
I have a reccomendation for you, and no it's not a Mormon movie (The R.M. is the best! And I have seen many more if you want some reviews)It's called Joshua(NOT to be confused with the horror movie with Sam Rockwell...scary) and stars Tony Goldwyn. When I read the back I just noticed that it said a stranger whose mysterious "supernatural" powers inspire a small town. And then I watched it and found it to be a spiritual story about the healing power of Christ's love, and was based on a best-selling book.

I haven't seen any of these movies and I'm so glad you posted about them because they sound great! I too love a movie that I really can get into and that makes me "feel". Can't wait to see them! Hope you're having a good week! :)

Hi, Sharlie!
From the perspective of an "older woman" I must agree with your choices of movies. I LOVED Bella. Is that guy a hunk or what?!!!! Awesome story in a world where life is taken so lightly! Thanks for sharing!

Hey Shar! Thanks for the recommendation we rented Lars this weekend and had our neighbors over and I was happy to have found something that was clean and different!
With Jess and Keri gone we'll have to make an effort to get together some time. Our boys need to have a play date.
